Seeing Begins in the Brain

Helping children with neurological differences understand their visual world

Functional vision and Cerebral Visual Impairment (CVI) assessments, education and support for children, families and professionals

at the seeing brain

We believe every child experiences the world differently.

For some children, the eyes may be healthy, but the brain has difficulty making sense of what they see. Others have both eye conditions and visual processing difficulties that affect learning, mobility, communication and everyday life.

We provide mobile orthoptic care, functional vision assessments and personalised strategies to help children make the most of their vision at home, school and in the community.

Our assessments are tailored for children with neurological differences, including those with complex communication and support needs, using gentle observation and everyday activities to understand how they use vision in daily life.

Could your child be experiencing visual processing difficulties?

Does your child seem to see but not fully understand what they’re looking at?

Do they seem to turn their head to use their vision?

Do they get overwhelmed in busy or visually complex environments?

Do they struggle with finding, recognising or copying things?

Do they seem to respond better to sound or touch than vision?

Do they struggle or need extra support going down the stairs compared to going up?

Do they seem clumy, frequently tripping over obvious obstacles?

our approach

Child's hand accurately reaching for a toy - vision is a skill which is learnt.

Support that’s built around you

We provide vision support based on each child’s strengths, needs and goals. By coaching parents and caregivers, we build consistent strategies that support meaningful, lasting change across home, school and everyday environments.

Children Using Tablets - Those with CVI are often drawn to light - using backlit screens can support visual attention

Understanding How You See

A functional vision assessment isn’t just about eyesight — it’s about what we do with what we see.
We explore how your child uses vision in everyday environments, including attention, recognition, movement and visual comfort.

Individual with AFO and walking frame - vision is used to navigate the world safely
